my sport psychology experience

Voted ‘Best Sports and Business Coaching Service 2020’ North West England (SME News)

I studied for my MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology at Staffordshire University and BSc (Hons) Psychology at the Open University. I am fully trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and a probationary sport and exercise scientist (specialising in psychology).

As a Sport Psychologist, I can help you to improve your mental skills and performance. ACT helps you too create a flexible mind set and therefore enables you to respond effectively to challenging thoughts or situations. Athletes can experience a range of emotions when competing and the worlds best athletes have the right mindset and skills to be highly resilient.

ACT’s main focus is living your ‘core values’ and committing to behaviours that move them towards these values, whilst taking difficult thoughts, feelings and sensations with you. ACT offers a framework to improve your ‘psychological flexibility’. This framework is known as the ‘hexaflex’ which has six key components to help become more ‘psychologically flexible’.

Testimonial

Stephen helped me with my mental training for tennis and this really helped to keep me focused and relaxed while I was competing on the ATP tour. His knowledge of sports psychology and tennis is brilliant as he really understands what you go through as an athlete in high pressure situations.
